USB-IF Announces USB4 new interface which is based on the USB Type-C connector and Specifications: Up to 40 Gb / s Bandwidth

Organization of USB Implementers Forum revealed the main features of the new USB4 interface (aka USB 4.0).

What is known

The new interface is based on the USB Type-C connector and it provides data transfer rates up to 40 Gb / s. This figure is twice as much as the current USB3. It also has compatibility with previous generations of USB, including USB 3.2, USB 2.0, and of course Thunderbolt 3. In addition, the new version optimally distributes bandwidth while transmitting video and data, supports up to eight DisplayPort 1.2 lines and fast charging devices with power up to 100 watts.

When to expect

There is no exact information when USB4 devices appear on the market. Presumably, they should be expected only at the end of next year.
